Azzecca Top Tracks

Chicago-based DJ and producer Azzecca creates dance-floor-ready tracks that effortlessly blend the boundaries of techno and house. After the recent release of her remix of TIBASKO’s ‘Still Rushing’, we asked her to share some of the tracks that have shaped her musical journey.

What’s the first record you ever bought?

The Doors – ‘Strange Days’.

The first time you remember hearing electronic music?

I grew up listening to bands like Radiohead, Garbage and Pink Floyd without even clocking that what I was hearing was electronic.

The first time I remember thinking “Woah.. what is this?” was when I heard the Eurythmics ‘Touch’ album for the first time.

I was obsessed with all things synth-pop from that point forward and really started actively seeking out electronic music.

Your favourite ever record?

Wow, this is almost an impossible question. Fleetwood Mac – ‘Rhiannon’ is definitely up there.

The guaranteed floor-filler?

Loods – ‘Problem Solver’.

The best tune from last year?

I cannot get enough of Earth Trax – ‘Dream Pop’… masterpiece of a track.

The guilty pleasure?

The entire Blondie – Parallel Lines album. Will never, ever get sick of this one!

Takes me back to some of the happiest moments of my childhood.

The last track of the night?

Skream & Jansons ‘World is Empty’ has been my go-to recently. Scuba ‘Adrenalin’ (if the vibe is right) is an incredible way to end an evening.

The best chillout record?

Bicep – ‘Celeste’. This is also in the running for my favourite track, ever.

Burial – ‘Rodent’ is basically Xanax in MP3 form as well.

The record everyone loves but you hate?

I don’t want to get myself in trouble here. There’s been quite a few over the past couple of years.

The best record for a family party?

Depends on the family!

For my in-laws, probably some Portishead or Massive Attack record.

For my family, anything Frank Sinatra will do.

The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?

Maribou State – ‘Kingdoms in Colour’ front to back.

The worst record you’ve ever heard?

I don’t know about ‘worst ever’ but… the new Sam Smith record is pretty brutal.

The record you’re proudest of?

I’m really proud of a track I just finished called ‘Ego Death’.. coming out this March! Super stoked to get this one out in the world.

The future classic?

I think someday Bicep – ‘Glue’ will be regarded as one of the best electronic tracks of all time.
