McIntosh Announces First AV Receiver in 20 Years

Legendary brand McIntosh are dipping their toes into new territory with the upcoming release of their new MHT300 AV receiver, their first such product since 2003.
The McIntosh range has always been extensive and their long history with both AV processors and amplification makes this a logical product for the New York based company.
Described by McIntosh as a ‘powerhouse’ and ‘the next generation of home theatre’ it is clear that they are very confident that the MHT300 will deliver. The 7.2 channel receiver offers 120 to 150 Watts of McIntosh power to every speaker with all seven channels being driven.
As the company puts it “Every explosion, every car chase, every high-speed flyby of a fighter jet or spaceship, every roar of the crowd after a game winning score will be faithfully reproduced by 120 – 150 Watts on every one of your speakers. With the MHT300, you’ll no longer have to wonder if each speaker is getting the full power listed on the box.”
Expandable
External amplifiers can be connected to the MHT300 to power them via the Height 1 and Height 2 audio outputs to take the receiver from a 7.2 system to a 7.2.4 system if you ever look to expand your set up to include Atmos channels.
Even if you do not add more speakers to your home cinema, more power could be added. For example, if you decide you want more power for your front left and right speakers, you can add an external stereo amplifier to your system.
Dirac Live Room Correction
No room is the same and it can have a big effect on your system. McIntosh have countered this by including an intuitive room correction feature called ‘Dirac Live’. This enables you to optimise your system and reduce unwanted effects introduced by your room. Dirac Live uses time domain correction by means of patented mixed-phase filter technology – something that all other solutions are missing.
Connectivity
The world of AV is constantly evolving that is why McIntosh has ensured the connectivity of the MHT300 is up-to-date and varied. It offers two discrete subwoofer outputs and is compatible with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG high dynamic range (HDR) content in addition to supporting 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz video on all four of its HDMI inputs and on one HDMI output. Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) and ARC functionality are also supported. All ports boast 18Gbps of bandwidth and support Rec. 2020 colour and 4:4:4 colour spacing with 3D video pass-through.
Iconic McIntosh Design
The MHT300 features the traditional Mcintosh look with its black glass, illuminated logos and metallic trim. The build quality of Mac products is never in question and this is no exception.
Other interesting features of this receiver are its ‘Power Guard’ signal overload technology to prevent damage of your speakers, and its eco-friendly on/off signal sensing that turns the unit off if no input signal has been detected for a set amount of time.
The MHT300 is available for pre-order now and expected to be released in late March / April. The price in the UK will be £8,995.
