Støll

Hailing from Northeast Germany, we asked Støll to introduce himself.

Who are you?

My name is Fiete Stoll, I’m 29 years old and have been producing electronic music for over 12 years.

Where are you from?

I’m from Kühlungsborn, a small city in the northeast of Germany on the Baltic Sea.

What do you sound like?

Actually, I don’t really know what I sound like. Maybe something like dub ambient techno.

Why should we follow what you’re doing?

First of all, I’m making music for myself. It’s fun, and I like it. I’m not really interested in gaining followers or creating a big social media presence. If you’re interested in my music, listen to it.

Which of your tracks sums you up? Why?

I think a track called ‘lost’ from the 12“ Ilion Fiction EP released in 2017 on the label ‘from any direction“ sums me up the most because the way I produced the track was really spontaneous and improvised.

What have you got coming out in the near future?

Next week, on October 10th, my EP ‘Inner Mountains’ is being released. Besides that, I’m looking forward to 2024 🙂

What or who is your biggest influence and why?

Influences are everywhere at any time.

How did you get into DJing/producing to begin with?

I started to produce music in 2010. Through a friend, I got in contact with Ableton Live and I immediately fell in love.

What are three things on your studio shopping list?

I was never into buying gear because I’m convinced that you can produce electronics just with a laptop. For example, I’m really into Ableton Live’s Wavetable. For me, it’s all about the idea.

Who or what have you sacrificed for your art

A lot of time!

What’s been your favourite place to play so far?

I don’t perform as a live act, but I’m really into DJing. My favorite places so far are Berlin and Rostock.

Where can we hear your music?

Digital: Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Apple Music

Vinyl: Decks.de; Hardwax, etc.

What one song would feature on the soundtrack to your life?

Good question! Maybe a continuous mix of Joe Hisaishi – ‘A Huge Tree in the Tsukamori Forest (My Neighbor Totoro)’ and Hans Zimmer’s – ‘Day One’ (Interstellar Theme).

What motivates you?

My motivation is to produce music that I’d like to listen to or dance to.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

Besides music, I’m really into playing chess. My grandfather taught me when I was seven years old. I lost interest as a teenager, but I’m constantly playing for some years now. I also joined a club and have a competition on the weekends.

Complete this sentence: At heart I’m just a…

Dreamer. I dream my life away. Today.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve received?

When you think you have finished a track – wait for two weeks. Don’t listen to it. After 2 weeks, open the project, listen to it, and if you still like it, the chances are high that it is actually good. If not, start something new.

Where will you be in five years’ time?

I want to play at some more clubs & festivals. Also, I want to collaborate more with others.

Stoll’s ‘Inner Mountains’ is out next week on Bandcamp. Find him on Instagram.
