Below, you’ll find a selection of Wordle hints to guide you in the right direction. You don’t have to use them all, but there are five in total should you need them, covering vowels, starting letter, ending letter and more. And if you don’t have time to play at all, you can see the answer, too.

Want more word-based fun? My Quordle today page contains hints and answers for that game, which remains the best of all the main Wordle alternatives.

SPOILER WARNING: Wordle hints and today’s answer are below, so don’t read on if you don’t want to see them.

Wordle hints (game #894) – clue #1 – Vowels

How many vowels does today’s Wordle have?

Wordle today has vowels in two places*.

* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).

Wordle hints (game #894) – clue #2 – first letter

What letter does today’s Wordle begin with?

The first letter in today’s Wordle answer is R.

R is a surprisingly uncommon starting letter. Despite ranking third overall in Wordle, it’s merely the 11th most likely to begin an answer.

Wordle hints (game #894) – clue #3 – repeated letters

Does today’s Wordle have any repeated letters?

There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle.

Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

Wordle hints (game #894) – clue #4 – ending letter

What letter does today’s Wordle end with?

The last letter in today’s Wordle is N.

N is a pretty common ending letter in Wordle: it’s the seventh most likely in that position and features in 130 solutions.

Today’s Wordle answer (game #894) is… RESIN.

Some yellow letters are far harder to locate than others. Take R, for instance. It’s the sixth most common letter in position #2, seventh in #3, third in #4 and fourth at the end. It’s only at the start where it’s not that likely to be appear. That means you can easily spend several goes chasing one around the board, as I did today. E is similar – fourth most common in the second and third slots, most common at the end of a word. Again, it took me four guesses to turn it green.

Others seemingly didn’t have such a tough time with it, because RESIN has a low average score of 3.5, according to WordleBot. My suspicion is that some of this is due to three of the most popular Wordle starting words – TRAIN, which left four answers, RAISE, which left three, and ARISE, which left eight. Between them, that trio accounted for 7% of all starting words today.

My pick, STARE, was not quite so successful, but was still quite useful – it left 15 options. The fact that it took me three more guesses is therefore not a shining example of my Wordle skills.

I played FRESH first, figuring that if the S wasn’t at the start of the answer it might go at the end with an H. Wrong. WordleBot, rightly, told me this was not a great guess and suggested that PRIOR would have been much better. Whatever I played, I really should have thought of a word that would have down a better job of narrowing down the options, given that it still left nine answers.

My third guess was a lot better: I played WISER next, and that gave me a green letter finally (S in the middle) as well as revealing an I. And as is happened, that now left only one answer, RESIN, which I found next for my 4/6.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #893)

In a different time zone where it’s still Wednesday? Don’t worry – I can give you some clues for Wordle #893, too.

  • Wordle yesterday had vowels in two places.

* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).

  • The first letter in yesterday’s Wordle answer was S.

S is the most common starting letter in the game, featuring in 365 of Wordle’s 2,309 answers. In fact, it’s almost twice as likely to begin an answer as the next most common starting letter, C.

  • There were repeated letters in yesterday’s Wordle.

Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

  • The last letter in yesterday’s Wordle was I.

I is a really unlikely letter to end a Wordle answer. Only 11 of the game’s 2,309 original solutions finish with one, making it just the 19th most common in this position.

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #893)

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #893) was… SUSHI.

I love sushi. This almost certainly had no bearing on my game today, and definitely had none on yours, but it’s true all the same. I also love SUSHI as a Wordle answer. It’s fairly challenging, but not due to some stupid reason such as there being another 10 answers that have a similar letter-format (I’m looking at you, HOUND) or due to being a word that hardly anyone would know (BORAX!). No, the problems are the repeated S and the fact that it ends in an I.

WordleBot says it has an average score of 4.1 – which makes it a lot tougher than yesterday’s SCOPE (4.1, see below) but not quite as tricky as Monday’s TAWNY (4.2). The repeated S is probably less of a problem than the I at the end. S is repeated in 49 of Wordle’s original 2,309 answers (about 2%), whereas I only ends 11 (less than 0.5%). If you’re anything like me, you won’t even have considered the fact that it might finish the answer.

It’s not an answer that many of the best Wordle starting words helped greatly with. SAINT, which left 18 possible solutions, was one of the few that cut down the options to below 20, whereas SLATE left 69 and my choice, STARE, left 81.

With a green S on the board, I wanted a second guess that contained several of the letters that regularly follow it. PYLON fit the bill nicely once again, because SP— gave me the likes of SPICY, SL— led to SLINK and SN— to SNIFF. I was a little unlucky here, because PYLON didn’t give me any new letters. However, by ruling out those five it did cut the options list to nine.

Embarrassingly, I only found one, SHUCK. According to WordleBot, I could also have played SQUID, SQUIB, SWISH, SKIFF, SCUFF, SHUSH and SMUSH (and SUSHI, of course). This is a poor effort on my part, and one which I have no excuse for.

Anyway, I played SHUCK next and though it wasn’t correct, it did finally point the way to the answer. SUSHI was the only remaining possibility – once I’d realized that I could put an I at the end of the word – so I played that next for a 4/6.

What is Wordle?

If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.

We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.

What is Wordle?

Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?

It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.

Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.

What are the Wordle rules?

The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.

1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.

2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.

3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.

4. Answers are never plural.

5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.

6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.

7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.

8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.

9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.

10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…

11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
